Bettina (ベティーナ, Betiina) is a former Ahrensbach mednoble, who married Freuden of Ehrenfest.[4]
History
Bettina was born in the duchy of Werkestock. During the civil war her home fell and was split in two, with the half in which she lived being put under the management of Ahrensbach, making her and her family officially citizens of that duchy. In Ahrensbach Bettina managed to join Georgine's faction, who in turn pushed to marry her off to Ehrenfest to use as a spy, while masquarading as a benevolent caretaker, only wishing the best for the poor Werkestock nobles.[2]
The marriage between Bettina and Freuden had been blocked by Aub Ehrenfest refusing to give his permission, on account of the strained political relationship between their respective home duchies. At the Archduke Conference following Rozemyne's first term at the Royal Academy, however, Aub Ahrensbach managed to convince him to give his permission, allowing the marriage to go ahead.[5]
Story
Part 4 Volume 5
Due to the highly unusual situation, instead of waiting for the next regular Starbind Ceremony, Bettina and Freuden, as well as Aurelia and Lamprecht, are wedded directly at the border gate between the two duchies, in the presence of both archducal families, on account of Aurelia being Aub Ahrensbach's niece.[4]
Following the ceremony and the move to her new home, Bettina quickly gets involved with members of the former Veronica faction.[6]
At the following winter socializing, Rozemyne isn't able to spot anyone with a face-veil other than Aurelia, leading her to believe that unlike her fellow Ahrensbach bride, Bettina is not wearing a face-veil while in Ehrenfest, despite her close association with the Ahrensbach aligned nobles of the former Veronica faction.[7]
Part 5 Volume 4
The next year in winter Ehrenfest enacts a thorough purge of anyone associated with either the former Veronica faction or Georgine. While the purge is unusually merciful, forgoing guilt by association within families and reserving the death sentence only for particularly severe crimes and those name-sworn to Georgine, Bettina is unfortunately found guilty of committing treason in aid of Georgine and thus one of the few nobles executed alongside her husband Freuden and his parents.[1]
