Non-Human living beings that are unable to wield mana are called animals.
Common Animals
Chicken
They are the same as the chickens of Earth. They are raised for their meat and eggs. Poor commoners in the southern part of Ehrenfest's lower city sometimes raise them in the attics of their buildings.
Cow
Like on Earth cows are raised for milk and meat, as well as used to pull wagons and plows.
Donkey
Just like on Earth Donkeys are used as pack and work animals. They are more common among poor citizens than among the rich.
Farba
Farba are a kind of bird indigenous to Yurgenschmidt. Currently nothing is known apart from it's meat being used as the main ingredient for the dish Crun-Crun Ju-Ju Farba invented by Lady Rozemyne.[1]
Goat
Like the goats of Earth.
Horse
Like on Earth, horses are used to pull coaches and as mounts. They are mostly owned by richer commoners and nobles, with poorer commoners opting for oxen or donkeys, if they can afford an animal at all.
The horse is also one of the most common motives that nobles style their highbeast after.
Pig
Like on Earth, pigs are mainly raised to provide resources. Nearly all of their parts are used, with the meat and blood serving as food and their skin among other things being used to create parchment.
Among the poor people in the southern part of Ehrenfest's lower city have a tradition where an entire neighborhood travels to a nearby farming village to communally slaughter pigs as part of winter preparation. This "pig day" is like a festival to them.[2]
Schram
Schram are a species of bugs. Their innards are very sticky, making their juices a possible component for tororo in paper making.
Tschnitz
Tschnitz is a species of bird. It's meat is an ingredient in at least one high-quality meal eaten among Ehrenfest's nobility.[3]
Feybeasts
When a species or sub-species of animal is able to wield mana, it is called a feybeast.
