Dhorme is a traveling merchant, mostly journeying between Ehrenfest and Frenbeltag and an old friend of Otto[1].
History
Back in his days as a traveling merchant, Otto and Dhorme became friends and helped each other out. When Otto managed to gain Corinna's hand, Otto asked him, to tell his parents about how he managed to marry his new wife and what he did with the money he earned, which Dhorme did. Even after the marriage, Otto and Dhorme met in Ebb's bar to drink and chat. When the Plantin Company split from the Gilberta Company and Otto took up a position in his wife's company, he mostly stopped going to his old haunts.[1]
Story
Concurrent with Part 4 Volume 7
In the autumn after the reconstruction of Ehrenfest's lower city, Otto is contacted by Dhorme and the two meet at Ebb's bar, with Otto donning his old, "poor people's clothes" for the first time in a while. The first chat a little about the massive changes the city has gone through recently, before getting to the actual point of their meeting. Dhorne is in a bit of a bind, since the daughter of the mayor, who agreed to let him stay with them in the winter, wanted him to procure a hairpin in red, but he was unable to find a fitting one in any of Ehrenfest's stores. Otto informs him that this is the result of other duchies buying up essentially the whole stock of hairpins in the summer, and all the craftswomen being busy dealing with the backlog this caused to build up.
Usually Otto would have to turn down the request, since every single craftwoman of every single story is too busy, but since the request comes from a friend and due to the hardships of a traveling merchant, Dhorme's very life might depend on his ability to stay on good terms with the mayor, Otto agrees to see if he can help by contacting Effa, who is the only person Otto knows of, who has the ability to make a hairpin of sufficient quality, without being caught up in the post-summer sale time crunch, albeit only for a hefty urgency fee.
Thankfully for Dhorme, Effa is able to make the time and delivers a finished hairpin of sufficient quality just two days later.[1]
