Bonus Short Story Summary
This short story, Witnessing the Name-Swearing, starts off in the brewing room of the dormitory, Roderick, a second-year mednoble, struggles to make a rejuvenation potion. Hartmut, an archscholar and Lady Rozemyne's retainer, is frustrated with Roderick's slow progress and worries about his abilities as a future retainer. Despite being a mednoble, Hartmut still thinks Roderick lacks the necessary skills and knowledge to serve Lady Rozemyne effectively. Hartmut reflects on Lady Rozemyne's decision to accept Roderick's name and the challenges he faces in becoming a reliable retainer. As Roderick completes the name-swearing stone ceremony, Hartmut feels jealousy and a desire to give his own name to Lady Rozemyne.
