— Eglantine to Rozemyne in Part 4 Volume 2, Chapter 13: A Tea Party with Eglantine
|
Eglantine (エグランティーヌ, Egurantiinu) is an former archduke candidate of Klassenberg. After graduating from the Royal Academy, she married Prince Anastasius and became his first wife.
Shortly after the Lanzenave invasion has been fended off, she is crowned the new Zent and Sovereign High Bishop by the Divine Avatar of Mestionora.[2]
Appearance
Eglantine has bright orange eyes and wavy golden hair that she wears in elaborate braids. Due to her appearance and her skill at performing the Dedication Whirl, she is often compared to the Goddess of Light.[8]
Personality
Eglantine is polite and soft-spoken. Although she is usually reserved, she loves art and can become animated when discussing music and dance.
After losing her family in the recent civil war, Eglantine developed a strong aversion to political conflict. She values peace and is willing to make great personal sacrifices to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.[9]
History
Eglantine is a former princess. Her father was the previous third prince of Yurgenschmidt, one of the main figures in the recent civil war. Her entire family was killed when an assassin poisoned their food. Eglantine, who had not yet been baptized and so did not eat dinner with the family, was the sole survivor.[10]
After Eglantine was orphaned, she was adopted by her grandfather, who at the time was the Aub Klassenberg. While he adopted her for her protection, he later came to regret his actions. He feels he stole her birthright, and he is determined to have her marry Anastasius or Sigiswald to regain her original status as royalty.[9] Since then, her grandfather has retired and passed the position of Aub on to his successor, but he is still an active and very influential participant in Klassenberg's political landscape. According to Prince Anastasius, she has more elemental affinities than the current king and is expected to exceed his mana capacity before she reaches adulthood.[10]
Due to her elegance and skill, she was chosen for the part of the Goddess of Light at the Dedication Whirl performed at her graduation ceremony at the Royal Academy. During the two years she and Lady Christine shared at the Royal Academy, the two bonded over their shared appreciation of art and attended many tea parties together.[8]
