I’ve been thinking my whole life that I want to become a noble’s chef to get out of my uncle’s store. I don’t mind going to the temple to make that dream a reality. | ”

— Ella to Benno in Part 2 Volume 2, “Apprentice Chef in the Temple”
|
Ella (エラ Era) is Rozemyne’s personal chef whom she trained at the temple. She is married to Rozemyne’s other chef, Hugo.
Personality
Ella has a matter-of-fact, cheerful personality. In spite of her difficult circumstances, she looks for constructive and practical ways to improve her future. An ambitious chef, Ella loves her job and works hard to improve her cooking skills.
History
Ella's father died when she was young, and her mother was forced to become a prostitute to make ends meet. Growing up, Ella found work as an apprentice chef in her uncle's night-time bar. However, her uncle was a cruel, callous man who hired out his own daughter, Lea, to serve as a "waitress" and visit paying male clients in their rooms.
Ella believed that the same thing would happen to her when she came of age, so she was eager to find anywhere else to work -- especially if she could find work as a chef. When her uncle sent her to ask for an extension on the bar's taxes from the Eatery Guild, she encountered Benno talking about how hard it was to find a chef who was willing to work in the temple.
While Ella had heard unsavory rumors about the temple, she reasoned that it couldn't possibly be worse than working for her uncle. She persuaded Benno to let her take the job. Her uncle protested, but her mother supported her, happy to see that her daughter was finding a new path through life. Ella signed a contract with the Gilberta Company at the Eatery Guild. That was also where she met Hugo for the first time.[1]

- Like many people in Ehrenfest, Ella thought that using the water vegetables were cooked in resulted in illness, miscarriage, or infertility.[1]
- When Myne first met Ella, Myne thought she was 10.[3] However, she came of age (turned 15) the following spring.[4]
- When Ella came of age, Rozemyne gave her a portable meat grinder as a gift, which was one of her new inventions. Meat grinders in Ehrenfest were generally large machines that couldn't be easily moved, so it was a very valuable present. Hugo was envious when he learned about it.[4]
