"Re-Ascendance of a Bookworm, Part 2" is the second of two recap episodes aired with Season 3 of the Ascendance of a Bookworm anime series. This episode covers events from the second season of the anime, which was adapted from Part 2 Volume 1 and Part 2 Volume 2 of the light novel series.
Summary
The recap begins with Gil organizing the cathdral library with Myne. As the episode's narrator, Gil introduces himself and then begins describing Myne's life at the temple starting with the assignment of her gray priest retainers: Fran, Delia and Gil. Although the three retainers initially have a rocky relationship with Myne, they eventually learn to understand and trust each other.
After moving to the orphanage director's chambers, Myne and Gil discover that the unbaptised children in the orphanage are abandoned to starve in the basement due to lack of resources. Myne agrees to help, and eventually works with Lutz to come up with a plan to make the orphanage a self-sustaining workshop. The orphanage is cleaned, and the orphans are given food, care and work.
When Myne's mother Effa becomes pregnant, Myne takes on Wilma as a retainer to help make picture books and begins studying music with Rosina. The orphanage workshop prints its first book, a children's picture bible, using stencil printing. In the fall, one of the blue priest makes a mess of the cathedral library, but Myne decides to use the opportunity to create a new organizational system.
When the Knight's Order summons Myne and the Head Priest for aid in a trombe extermination mission, one of the knights threatens Myne and cuts her, causing a second trombe to trap her. The knight is punished and Myne completes the healing ritual, demonstrating the full extent of her mana. Afterward, the Head Priest uses a magic tool to search Myne's memories of her past life. He decides that she will be a valuable asset to Ehrenfest and arranges for Karstedt to adopt her. Meanwhile, Myne feels renewed appreciation for her family's love.
