Summary
As the Head Priest faces down with Count Bindewald, Sylvester and Karstedt arrive on the scene. The Head Priest kneels to Sylvester, startling Myne. The High Priest calls out for help to Sylvester, who responds by calling him "Uncle." Karstedt reveals that Sylvester is in fact the Aub Ehrenfest, the ruling lord of the domain of Ehrenfest. Back at the Gilberta Company, Benno gets the details of what's happening from Lutz and rushes off, muttering that they're out of time.
At the cathedral, all present kneel for Sylvester's judgment. Bindewald urges him to punish "that dangerous, treacherous little commoner," but Sylvester corrects him by announcing that Myne is now his adopted daughter. The moment she stamped her blood on the black stone necklace he gave her, she finalized a pre-written contract and became the daughter of the Aub Ehrenfest. The High Priest begs him to nullify the adoption, blaming the Head Priest Ferdinand, Sylvester's younger brother, for manipulating them both.
Myne is shocked at the revelation that Sylvester and the Head Priest are family. Although the High Priest argues that Ferdinand is merely "some younger half-brother whose mother is a whore," Sylvester firmly tells him to refrain from insulting his "precious little brother." He condemns the High Priest for his crimes and sentences him and his accomplices to death.
As Delia is taken away for punishment as one of the High Priest's servants, she asks Myne to care for Dirk. Remembering the time when Delia wished someone had saved her as an abandoned orphan, Myne asks Sylvester to spare Delia. He agrees on the condition that she come up with an alternative punishment. After some thought, Myne decides that Delia will stay in the orphanage she despises for the rest of her life, watching over Dirk and the other children as a caregiver. Delia thanks Myne with tears in her eyes.
Sylvester tells Gunther to bring the rest of his family to the cathedral to discuss Myne's adoption and future. Meanwhile, Arno and an injured Fran serve tea for the nobles, and Fran reproaches Arno for not informing him sooner that the Head Priest was in the cathedral. Sylvester explains to Myne that she will be given a new identity as the daughter of Karstedt and his deceased third wife. It will be much easier to justify her adoption if she is introduced as a noble raised in the cathedral than if she is merely a commoner. As a result, she will need to completely separate from her birth family.
Gunther, Effa, Tuuli and Kamil arrive at the cathedral for the meeting. Although Tuuli immediately rushes to hug Myne in relief, her parents urge her to kneel before Sylvester as he explains the situation. Although he doesn't wish to upset Myne by disposing of her family, he says that they will all need to sign a magic contract swearing to announce that Myne is dead and never acknowledge her as their family again. After tearful goodbyes, Tuuli, Effa and Kamil mark their blood on the contract one by one.
Myne becomes emotional as she hugs her father for the last time, and her mana begins to overflow. Although Sylvester and the Head Priest immediately brace for damage control, she tells them that she has learned how to control her mana. Raising her hands to the gods, she pours her mana into a blessing. Lights shine down on the Head Priest and her family, as well as Damuel and the members of the Gilberta Company across the city. Gunther's wound is healed in seconds, and Damuel sits up suddenly in bed.
Finally, Myne signs the contract herself and it is finalized in a burst of golden flame. Her family kneels to her as the daughter of the Aub Ehrenfest, then turn to depart. As Myne watches them go, she bows deeply in the Japanese style and cries silently.
In the commoner's graveyard, a fresh grave marker is erected for Myne. As Lutz and her family adjust to the idea that she will no longer be a part of their lives, they resolve to move forward and continue to support her from a distance. Tuuli practices her lacework so she can make hairpins for her sister as part of Corinna's workshop, and Lutz puts his all into expanding the printing and paper industries. Elsewhere, the newly named Rozemyne travels to the Noble's Quarter for the first time to begin her life as Sylvester's adopted daughter.
