Gerlach (ゲルラッハ, Gerurahha) is a province in the duchy of Ehrenfest in the kingdom of Yurgenschmidt.
Overview
Gerlach is a province on the southeastern border of Ehrenfest. It was under the governorship of the mednoble Gerlach family. The former giebe is Grausam, also called Viscount Gerlach and was married to Royella. The family was firmly allied with the former Veronica faction and were supporters of Georgine. The viscount had two sons, Janrick and Matthias.
Grausam fled the duchy in support of Georgine's plot to steal the Ehrenfest foundation. Leading up to the events of the Defense of Ehrenfest, a new Giebe was installed but was shortly killed after Grausam returned to the province. At the end of the conflict, he was killed on the battlefield against Rozemyne and his own son, Matthias.

History
After Gabriele of Ahrensbach married into Ehrenfest, the previous Giebe Gerlach married one of her attendants. As a result of the match, their descendants inherited a mana capacity suited to archnobles, despite being mednobles.
Both the previous Giebe Gerlach and his son and heir Grausam - the current Giebe Gerlach - are very careful in the choice of potential wives for their children, so they can maintain this large mana capacity in their successors for the three generations that are necessary for the family to be elevated to the status of archnobles.
Due to this family relation, faction politics and them directly bordering Ahrensbach, the leaders of Gerlach have long had a close and friendly relationship with the neighboring duchy.
Story
When Myne is acompanying the High Priest on her first Spring Prayer, Gerlach is one of the provinces they visit to deliver a small chalice. Shortly after leaving the Giebe's mansion, the pair are attacked by unknown forces comprising of a mob of riled-up peasants and a couple of low-level magic users. Thanks to the presence of Sylvester, who acompanyed the party incognito posing as a blue priest and not expecting how much the combined blessing of both Myne and Ferdinand strengthened their escort, the ambush fails in spectacular fashion, but all the mana-wielding culprints either get away or are killed.
The people who organized the attack were High Bishop Bezewanst who had a personal grudge against Rozemyne and Grausam who wanted to use this opportinity to ingradiate himself with Bezewanst's sister Veronica, the archduke's mother and leader of the at the time strongest faction without Ehrenfest.
Later Grausam is also involved in planning and organizing an attack on Myne in the temple, purpatrated by the High Bishop and the Ahrensbach noble Count Bindewald.
On the day of Lady Charlotte's baptism, Grausam is suspected to be the noble who attacked and poisoned Rozemyne and interrogated, but with no proof and a seemingly solid alibi, the Aub has to let him go free, despite both him and especially Bonifatius being almost certain of his guilt.
