Gustav (グスタフ Gusutafu) is the head of the Othmar Company and is the guildmaster of Ehrenfest's Merchant's Guild. Once he becomes aware of Myne and the products that she keeps coming up with, he keeps trying to poach her for his own store.
He dotes on his granddaughter Freida and after learning that she has the Devouring, he arranges a contract with the laynoble Henrik for her to save her life. He carefully selected Freida's partner.
Appearance
The guildmaster is described as looking around his fifties, with broad shoulders. Though his normal appearance is that of a kind, albeit older man, his merchant mode is far scarier. He is described as usually wearing a smile.
Personality
Gustav is a conniving man with an instinct for profit. He is not above manipulation to get what he wants. He has a terrible aptitude for personal affairs though, and though he means well, tends to antagonize rather than support, especially in Benno's case.
Gustav has a mindset oriented towards the greater good of the City of Ehrenfest, prioritizing the stability between nobles and the lower city and taking care of its economic prosperity.
History
He and Benno have a fairly long-lived rivalry and don't get along well, although they do understand each other quite well. When Benno's father died, he offered to marry Benno's mother directly after his death. As Benno's mother married the person she loved, Gustav earned the whole family's hatred and starting the feud between Benno's and his family. After Benno's mother died shortly following her husband, Benno became the sole adult and took over the Gilberta Company. Benno just came of age and was therefore an inexperienced young man. Gustav didn't want to see the Gilberta Company and new hard-working talents crumbling down and offered his daughters for marriage to Benno, after Benno's fiancée Liz died. Benno, who loved Liz, was furious, deepening his hatred for Gustav. Later, Gustav offered his sons to Benno's sisters for marriage later. They all declined leaving Gustav perplexed to why all his well-meant offers were declined. Reaching present day, Gustav still hasn't understood the hostility directed at him from Benno and his family.

- His right-hand man is Cosimo.
- Gustav introduced his name during his debut in the anime. However in the light novel, Rozemyne never knew his name until the Italian Restaurant trip in Part 3 Volume 1.
