— Hannelore to Rozemyne in Part 4 Volume 3, Chapter 11: The Tea Party for All Duchies
|
Hannelore (ハンネローレ, Hanneroore) is an archduke candidate from Dunkelfelger and Lestilaut's younger sister.
She is the main character of the spinoff novel series Hannelore's Royal Academy Fifth Year that takes place after the events of Part 5 Volume 12.
Appearance
Hannelore is a rather quiet looking girl with light-pink, almost purple hair that she usually wears in two tails. Her eyes are a vibrant shade of red almost exactly like that of a proposal feystone dyed by someone born in winter. She is small for her age, though still taller than Rozemyne.[5]
Personality
Due to being reprimanded often during her strict upbringing, Hannelore is shy, timid, and unconfident. When it comes to people relationships, she is constantly worrying about whether she has caused displeasure in other people, making her appear hesitant and apologetic. She is nervous around large gatherings of people, and often laments about her poor timing and her brother Lestilaut's tendency of dragging her into trouble.
She didn't cared much about books previously because books in Dunkelfelger are mostly written in ancient texts and are tough to read, but came to love reading after getting introduced to Ehrenfest books. As such, she can become quite animated when discussing books with Rozemyne.
History
As relatives of Trauerqual's third wife Magdalena, Hannelore and her brother Lestilaut occasionally visited her and her son Prince Hildebrand at their royal villa in the Sovereignty, but didn't form a particularly close relationship with the prince.[6]
In the past, Hannelore didn't care too much for books. But this changed when Lady Rozemyne of Ehrenfest lent her a book. Unlike the stories popular in Dunkelfelger, which tend to be written in euphemism-heavy, old, and difficult to read dialects, the book Rozemyne lent her was written in modern vernacular and both easy and fun to read. It also fit the young girl's taste for romance much closer than the popular Dunkelfelger literature which is almost exclusively about fighting in some form or the other. This awakened Hannelore to the joy of reading and made her eager to read more Ehrenfest books.[7]
Apart from older brother, Hannelore also has a seven years younger half-sister form her father's second wife. At the time she reaches the 4th grade at the Royal Acadmey, her grandmother and grandfather are still alive and she has at least two uncles, who are all available to supply their duchy's foundation, should the need arise.[4]

Retainers
- Cordula - Hannelore's head attendant and the adult retainer she took along to the Royal Academy.[7]
Abilities and Skills
Magical
- Highbeast: Hannelore's highbeast is a drivable shumil.[8]
- Mana Affinities: While her full set of affinities is still unknown, Hannelore is known to possess affinities to earth, light, darkness,[9] fire, and wind.
- Mana Capacity: Hannelore has the mana capacity "befitting an archduke candidate of a greater duchy" according to her internal monologue.[10]
- Divine Protections: Hannelore got at least one divine protection for each element she has an affinity for. She also has the protection of Angriff, the God of War, and Dregarnuhr, the Goddess of Time. She likely acquired the former from various Dunkelfelger traditions and the latter from often earnestly praying to Dregarnuhr to avoid the terrible timing she seems to be constantly plagued by.[2]
Trivia
- Due to her red eyes, twin-tail hairstyle, small stature and timid behavior, Rozemyne thought she looks like a rabbit. Interestingly, Rozemyne herself was said to resemble shumils, a feybeast species that look very similar to rabbits.
- A running gag with Hannelore is that she is always unfortunate with timing, so much that she's often praying or complaining to Dregarnuhr, the goddess of time. As a result, she obtained Dregarnuhr's divine protection.
- Among all characters introduced, Hannelore is one of the only two female nobles that tie their hair into two tails, the other being Philine. Coincidentally, both of them are shy book lovers that Rozemyne quickly became fond of.
- She is also similar to Freida in hairstyle and was someone with slightly higher status than Myne/Rozemyne when they first met, but she achieved something Freida couldn't -- becoming Rozemyne's best friend.
- Privately Rozemyne thinks of Hannelore as "quiet and fluffy", but also a capable archduke candidate.[11]
- Hannelore is the third person that Rozemyne described as an angel internally, after Tuuli and Charlotte.
