The City of Hasse is a farming community. It is ignored by merchants and nobles alike due to its proximity to the City of Ehrenfest, as merchants sell their goods in the capital city rather than a small city outside of it and nobles did not pay it much attention until Rozemyne decided to build a monastery there.
Location
Hasse, a small city east of the City of Ehrenfest, lies within the boundaries of the Central Ehrenfest. Hasse is about half a day by foot away from the capital city.[1]
Technically the distance is a bit shorter than that, as the bird flies, but it takes this amount of time to get around the edges of the forest.[2]
Leadership
The City of Hasse is governed by a commoner mayor. Before Rozemyne's interference due to the monastery, the mayor was in close contact with Bezewanst, the High Bishop. He had no concept of the power of the Nobility, nor an adequate understanding of noble euphemisms or noble culture. Due to his numerous misunderstandings and lack of knowledge, he insulted both Ferdinand and Rozemyne, obstructing them by withholding orphans and held the now deceased Bezewanst over their heads as a protector. In addition, he manipulated the townsfolk to attack the monastery, a white building, which is are considered treason by nobles.[3] After all these grievous crimes, he is executed along with his associates, though thanks to Rozemyne, the town is spared.
The previous mayor's assistant, Richt, is made mayor and instructed to learn noble euphemisms and culture by Rozemyne, who sends grey priests to teach.[4]
Story
Rozemyne and Benno are tasked by the Archduke to expand the printing industry. Rozemyne requests a monastery, and in a sudden rush of activity, Ferdinand designs and builds a white building by the authority of the Archduke. Benno tasks the Carpentry Guild to prepare the place for inhabitants. Meanwhile, due to the necessity of mana, Hasse's Mayor decides to sell orphans to a noble.
Rozemyne and Ferdinand go to visit the monastery and the mayor, and wish to see the orphans to inform them of the monastery. Hasse's Mayor has concealed a few, namely the ones he wanted to sell, but Rozemyne forces him to reveal them. Four orphans decide to go with her: Marthe, Rick, Thore, and Nora. This leaves the mayor with no goods to sell, and once Rozemyne and Ferdinand are gone, he attacks the monastery to get the orphans back, inadvertently committing an unforgivable crime. Ferdinand tasks Rozemyne with punishing the city and securing a successor to the mayor.
Rozemyne, after meeting with Benno, decides to spread rumors through the merchants to spread unease and to turn the town against the mayor. Rozemyne lessens the punishment from complete destruction of the town to increased taxes and no Spring Prayer, punishing the crops. Ferdinand, using a shield of Schutzaria, isolates the hostile commoners and executes them for treason with mana. The new mayor is Richt.
Continued lack of education in manners of euphemisms and noble culture lead Rozemyne to send grey priests to educate them.
During Rozemyne's sleep, the residents noticed that the area around the monastery was changing. The rich mana contained in the building to power its magic tools and protective barrier is seeping out into the surrounding land, making it more fertile than even the shores of the river. This led to the fruits and vegetables that grow near the monastery to be not only more numerous, but also bigger than other wild-growing plants further away.
Over the years, the villagers and the residents of the monastery develop a very friendly and cooperative relationship. During winter preparation, the locals help the priests and shrine maidens with winter preparation and are recompensed with money and the permission to forage and hunt in the bountiful forest areas near the monastery, benefitting both sides greatly. Despite still having to pay increased tithes as punishment for the past crimes of the village, Hasse appears to be prospering.[5]
Notable Structures
- Winter manor: Hasse's largest structure serves as a communal building that the farmers around Hasse use as lodging for the duration of winter. The manor also has a central plaza where the Harvest Festival takes place; as well as a field for sport competitions to take place during said festival.
- Orphanage: Hasse has a lone orphanage where Hasse's orphans are housed until they come of age. The orphanage is under the control of the mayor, and unlike with the temple's orphanage, when the orphans come of age, they are given land and are allowed to marry and enter society like any other person.
- Monastery: A monastery has been set up inside Hasse that serves as a warehouse for the production of Plant Paper within the city. The monastery is a white building constructed by Ferdinand for Rozemyne under the authority of the Archduke. The monastery contains a workshop for the production of Plant Paper. The associated orphanage's rooms are about half of those of the temple's orphanage. The workshop is the basement of the boy's building, and the kitchen in the basement of the girls' building, with a basement storage between them. The first floor of the boy's building is the chapel, and the first floor of the girl's building the dining hall, with dormitories the second floor of both buildings. Rozemyne's rooms can be opened through the chapel as well, and are registered with mana and usually locked.[6] The monastery also has a barrier, supplied by mana, to protect it from people who mean it or its inhabitants harm. Rozemyne is tasked with supplying mana for the barrier and the white building.
