Hassheit (ハスハイト, Hasuhaito) is a mednoble of Ehrenfest and Brigitte's former fiancé.

Appearance

At first glance, Hassheit appears to be a genial young man with a bright smile. However, his eyes show no kindness.

Personality

An ambitious and opportunistic nobleman, Hassheit has no compunctions about using his marriage to Brigitte for political gain. He also has a vindictive streak and took satisfaction in ruining her reputation after she broke off their engagement. In public, he appears poised and is a persuasive speaker, using elegant language to undermine and mock his adversaries.

History

Hassheit and Brigitte were engaged to be married. During the engagement her father died and the post of Giebe Illgner passed to her older brother. Her brother was still quite young for such a responsibility and is a poor negotiator.

Hassheit and his family thought to use the weakness and inexperience of the new giebe to their advantage to take over the province for themselves, even going so far as to plan to kill him once the marriage put them into the succession for the title. When Brigitte found this out, she immediately cancelled the engagement with no regards to the societal norms or consequences. This kind of behaviour is unbefitting of a noble of her station and resulted in grave consequences for her and her province, leading the majority of the local nobles to abondon Illgner and move to other provinces.

Brigitte had to endure mocking from higher and equal-ranking nobles and whispering behind her backs from laynobles ever since, on top of the harrassment by Hassheit and his family.

Story

After hearing about Brigitte's circumstances, Rozemyne creates a new dress that flatters her body type more than the current fashion, hoping it will help her win a new fiancé in spite of her damaged reputation. The dress proves a resounding success, and, combined with Brigitte's newfound political backing from Rozemyne and Elvira, serves to draw the attention of many eligible young noblemen at the Starbind Ceremony.

Hassheit takes the opportunity to ask Brigitte to once again accept his proposal. While painting himself as the victim of their broken engagement, he uses elegant euphemismsto insult Brigitte and Illgner. He implies, among other things, that she is a fool for breaking their engagement and that if she turns him down again, she will never find another man willing to take her.

However, Damuel and his friends intervene to cut off Hassheit's insults. Although Hassheit tells him to "know his place," Damuel instead proposes to Brigitte, promising to raise his mana capacity to equal that of a mednoble within a year. Although Brigitte initially believes he only wants to help her save face, uses the opportunity to spurn Hassheit's proposal and express her intention never to see him again. With Elvira observing the proceedings, Hassheit has little choice but to accept his loss and move on.
