Henrik (ヘンリック Henrikku) is a laynoble scholar of Ehrenfest and Damuel's older brother.
He is also the noble who signed a contract with Freida, trading her magic tools that could cure her Devouring in exchange for eventually taking her as a mistress when she comes of age.[1]
Appearance
Henrik resembles his brother Damuel, but his eyes and hair are a slightly darker brown.
Personality
Henrik is an honest man with a calm, gentle demeanor. Unlike most nobles, Henrik does not appear to look down on commoners and generally treats them with respect. Unlike his brother Damuel, he is not overly fond of sweets and prefers confectionaries to have a more restrained sweetness, like Pound Cake with Rumtopf.[1]
History
After graduating from the Royal Academy, Henrik became a layscholar. When he was 17, he signed a contract with Gustav to treat Freida’s Devouring and eventually take her as a mistress after she came of age.[1] When Henrik turned 18, his father died and he became the head of the family.
Story
Part 2
When Freida's bracelet of black feystones began to change colour,[1] she asked her grandfather to schedule a visit with Lord Henrik, her contract holder. Lord Henrik invited them for a visit in the afternoon which requires them to stay for dinner to show that he is treating them as proper guests.
Part 3
When Henrik meets Rozemyne for the first time he keeps apologizing for his brother's failure at the trombe extermination and thanking her for lessening his punishment.
Part 4
Part 4 Volume 5
Henrik is one of the layscholars chosen to interact with commoners for the sake of the printing industry under the oversight of Lady Rozemyne and Lady Elvira. As such he accompanies Rozemyne on a trip to Groschel to witness the establishment of new printing-related workshops and participate in negotiating the initial contracts. His ability to be fair to commoners and not lord his status over them catches Rozemyne's eye, earning him her praise.[2]
Trivia
- Gustav selected Henrik to be Freida's contract holder because he believed he would treat her well[1] and allow her to be a merchant[3] rather than just a concubine.
- Because his family has extremely low status, even among laynobles, their estate is located close to the gates of the Noble’s Quarter.
- Although she appears earlier, his wife's name (Juliane) is eventually mentioned in Damuel's side-story at the end of Part 3 Volume 5. Also mentioned is that she has green eyes.
