— Wilfried about Hirschur in Part 4 Volume 1, Chapter 9: The Advancement Ceremony and Fellowship Gatherings
| ||
Hirschur (ヒルシュール, Hirushuuru) is a sovereign archnoble and employed at the Royal Academy as a professor. As a former Ehrenfest noble, she oversees the Ehrenfest Dormitory as its Dormitory Supervisor. Her uncle is Norbert, head attendant of Ehrenfest's castle.
Appearance
Hirschur has violet eyes and black, slightly wavy hair, which she wears pulled back in a bun. She is about 170 cm (5’7”) tall.[2] She usually wears a monocle on her left eye.
Personality
While she is perfectly capable of showing the usual noble etiquette expected of an archnoble, she apparently shares Ferdinand's dislike for anything that delays her unnecessarily. As a result, she chooses to forgo the lengthy euphemisms and overly polite ways of her class whenever she can reasonably get away with it, preferring instead to be surprisingly direct and curt in her conversations.
She is practically obsessed with research, fitting the image of a "mad scientist" to a T in Rozemyne's opinion, even more so than Ferdinand.
This attitude extends to her laboratory, where she barely ever bothers to clean up and - much like Ferdinand himself - often forgoing meals in the pursuit of her research.
To Rozemyne, it is rather clear that Ferdinand picked up many of his unusual personality quirks from Hirschur.
Tools and Equipment
The monocle that Professor Hirschur wears is a magic tool that is helpful in seeing and understanding magic circles. It is unclear, at the moment, of the way this works or whether it has any functions beyond this.[3]
Since at his time in the Royal Academy, Ferdinand's ability to compress mana surpassed what the regular magic tools to show mana density can display, so she built a new one specifically to measure him. She later used the same tool to measure Rozemyne.[4]
History
Hirschur is regarded as a genius at the Royal Academy, albeit a very eccentric one, in her field of specialization. Prince Anastasius once remarked that not even Professor Gundolf was able to follow some of her discoveries.[5]
As the overseer of the Ehrenfest Dormitory, it would usually be expected of Hirschur to live in the Dormitory that she is nominally in charge of. She, however, chose to live in the room in the scholar building of the central complex of the Royal Academy, where she had been living in during her schooldays, to have fewer potential distractions for her research. Her experiments also at times produce foul smells, making the residents of Ehrenfest's facilities somewhat glad Hirschur chose to deviate from the norm in this case.[6]
Initially after her graduation, there was a period when she lived at the Ehrenfest Dormitory, but this came to an end once she chose to take on Ferdinand as her disciple. Due to Lady Veronica's paranoia and spite, she did everything she could to mess with Ferdinand and anyone who would associate with him. This not only caused Hirschur to receive regular insulting messages from Veronica herself, but Veronica also had the students of her faction and their adult attendants mess with her in any way they could get away with, which caused her to often sleep in her laboratory and eventually to move entirely to the scholar's building.
The people of the former Veronica faction also intercepted and either stole or redirected the funds meant for Hirschur. This state of affairs even continued well after Veronica's imprisonment, since Aub Ehrenfest was never made aware of the issue until years later. This, however, was to Hirschur's own design. Due to this financial independence from her former home duchy giving her far more freedom in choosing her disciples, regardless of faction politics or inter-duchy relations, she asked Ferdinand - who was aware of the issue - to not tell Aub Ehrenfest and keep things as they are, telling him she neither wanted nor needed the funds. Only once Lady Rozemyne entered her second term at the academy, did Ferdinand end up explaining this to the archduke. In the meantime, Ferdinand took it upon himself to divert some of the money he earned from selling magic tools to Hirschur.[7]
In previous years, Hirschur is said to only enter the Ehrenfest Dormitory twice a year and to prefer to stay entirely out of regular business, to be able to devote as much of her time as she can to her experiments into alchemy and magic tools.
This attitude also extends to her regular reports to Aub Ehrenfest, since they almost always just state that nothing out of the ordinary happened, even when there were issues well worth reporting.

Trivia
- Hirschur's name was in part inspired by the homeroom teacher of Miya Kazuki's daughter. After nothing stood out to her in the dictionary she was browsing, she decided to take a part of the teacher's name, turn the kanji into German and took a snipped from that as the character's name.[8]
