Part 2
Hugo is initially hired by Benno to become a chef at the Italian Restaurant. Benno also hires Ella at the Eatery Guild to become Hugo's assistant. The two of them join Myne in the orphanage director's chambers as her personal chefs, where they are trained to cook food fitting for nobility and learn Myne's own recipes. When he cooks with the new cooking techniques, he is quite surprised how good the food tastes and is eager to learn as much as he can from Myne.
Due to noble societal norms, Myne instructing the chefs in person would be frowned upon, so the two receive her instructions written out on wooden boards and read to them by one of Myne's attendants, usually Fran, since neither of them can read.
Part 3
Once fully trained, Hugo becomes the main chef at the Italian restaurant.
The first test-run attended by the Archduke, the Knight's Order Commander and the High Priest goes so well that the nobles wish to have their own personal chefs learn the recipes for the new dishes they just had. Since the Italian Restaurant would need at least a month before it can open to regular business anyway, it is agreed that the chefs will be rented out to the nobles to teach their chefs. Hugo is quite shocked when the Archduke and the Knight's Order Commander argue over this, and it is ultimately decided that Hugo will go to the Archduke's castle, while his colleague Todd goes to the temple to work for the High Priest.
While Rozemyne is sleeping in the jureve, Hugo and Ella get engaged. Due to their positions as personal chefs of a noble, they can't marry without the permission of their mistress. With her being unconscious and her legal guardian Ferdinand unwilling to make the decision himself, the two are left with no other choice than to wait for Rozemyne to awaken before they can marry, much to Hugo's frustration, since that means he'll be stuck as an unmarried participant in yet another Starbind Ceremony#Star Festival, only throwing Taue at other newlyweds.
Part 4
When Lady Rozemyne eventually awakes almost two full years later, there is not enough time to talk about marriage, since she has to rush to prepare for going to the Royal Academy just a short time after waking up. She takes Hugo and Ella along as staff to cook for her and her fellow Ehrenfest students.
Part 4 Volume 4
Following the conclusion of Rozemyne's first term at the Royal Academy and their return to the temple, she not only gives the pair of chefs her permission to marry, but also gives them a generous sum of money, partially a bonus for their work at the Royal Academy and partially a gift for their wedding preparations. She also plans to gift Ella a hair-ornament for the wedding.
While they can have a shared room at the castle, the strict gender separation within the temple means they will have to decide whether they want to stay in separate rooms while there, or rent a place in the lower city and commute to work. Either way they will still have their rooms at the temple, even if they decide to commute.[1]
Concurrent with Part 4 Volume 5
During Rozemyne's short stay on the way to the wedding at the border gate with Ahrensbach, Hugo tutors the chefs at Count Leisegang's mansion to improve their competency with the recipes they learned from Rozemyne's recipe books.[2]
Part 5
Part 5 Volume 5
At some point between the conclusion of Rozemyne's third term at the Royal Academy and the following Archduke Conference, the loving couple discovers that Ella is pregnant with their first child, and she is granted maternity leave by her lady. Due to having been given duties by royal decree, this year Lady Rozemyne participates in the Archduke Conference, and Hugo accompanies her, while Ella remains in Ehrenfest.[3]
