Klassenberg (クラッセンブルク, Kurassenburuku) is a duchy in the northeastern region of Yurgenschmidt, and currently holds the status of a greater duchy.

In Year 4, Klassenberg was First. After the Lanzenave Invasion was defeated, and new duchies Blumenfeld and Korinthsdaum were founded in Year 5, Klassenberg's rank was pushed down to Fourth. After those new duchies are properly evaluated at the next Archduke Conference, this likely allows Klassenberg to at least rise back up to without much difficulty.

Professor Solange

Eglantine, daughter of the late Third Prince and an unnamed Klassenberg archduke candidate who were killed during the civil war, is the adopted daughter and biological granddaughter of the Previous Aub Klassenberg. As Aub, he designated Eglantine an archduke candidate in order to restore her true status as Royalty.

In Year 2, there was an archduke candidate named Hensfen. As Gentiane is the only archduke candidate in Year 4, we can assume he graduated or was demoted to an archnoble.

Professor Primevere is the Klassenberg dormitory supervisor, likely hailing from Klassenberg. Professor Solange, a mednoble librarian at the Royal Academy Library, was orginally from Klassenberg prior to moving the to Sovereignty.

Geography and Climate

Being situated to the far north of Yurgenschmidt, Klassenberg is a very cold area with winters even harsher than those in Ehrenfest. To cope with the unforgiving climate, Klassenberg gone below the surfance and built underground cities.

The south-eastern border region of Klassenberg, known as Eisen among their people, was a part of former Eisenreich annexed to Klassenberg as a punishment of their rebellion. The region used to thrive in mining, but is currently almost deserted due to depletion of minerals. The duchy now invests very little time, effort, or money into hunting feybeasts in this region. Due to the danger posed by the roaming feybeasts and the lack of any trade relations between them and Ehrenfest, the border gate between the two duchies has been permanently closed with neither side even bothering to put any guards at the gates. If a particularly strong feybeast is spotted crossing the border, they inform Ehrenfest about it out of courtesy. Since the province of Haldenzel, directly south of Klassenberg extensively hunts the feybeasts on their side of the border, it is very unlikely that any strong feybeasts cross from Ehrenfest into Klassenberg.

Once the Lanzenave invasion was defeated and Eglantine is crowned the new Zent of Yurgenschmidt, she redrew the duchy borders and Klassenberg acquired Old Zausengas, which its been managing since the end of the civil war.

History

Several years ago, there was a coup within the Sovereignty. Klassenberg was the strongest ally of the Fifth Prince that eventually became the new Zent. Their victory was in large parts thanks to Klassenberg, and as a result, their influence had greatly increased after the civil war. Following this victory, Klassenberg was placed in charge with overseeing Old Zausengas, as the defunct duchy supported a rival prince.

Even prior to the civil war and coup, Klassenberg had close ties to royalty. Tthe daughter of Aub Klassenberg was married to the late Third Prince. The two of them had a daughter together, Eglantine. Upon the death of the prince, Aub Klassenberg adopted the girl - his own granddaughter - as his daughter.

Due to her royal blood and the great influence that Klassenberg holds within Yurgenschmidt, Eglantine has become highly sought after by the current first and second princes of the Sovereignty, since winning her hand in marriage would be a great step forward toward securing the right of succession for the throne.

For all of Rozemyne's life, Klassenberg was ranked the highest of all the duchies. That changed after the Lanzenave invasion.

Within the duchy, the Aub's father, the Previous Aub Klassenberg, is still alive and seems to still retain considerable influence.

Story

Part 4 Volume 3

Recently, a marriage between Eglantine and the second prince Anastasius has become very likely, due to the prince successfully negotiating with the Klassenbergs, his father, and his older brother to allow him to escort Eglantine at their graduation ceremony. During the after-ceremonial socializing, a mysterious blessing affected the pair and was declared to have come directly from the gods by the Sovereign High Bishop.

During the Interduchy Tournament, Aub Klassenberg inquired Aub Ehrenfest on new products the merchants witnessed when they visited Ehrenfest, from water pumps to less bumpy carriages. Aub Klassenberg wished to buy the schematics for the water pumps and the details will be discussed further at the Archduke Conference.

He also wanted to conduct another Dedication Ritual at the Royal Academy next year as well, but as the previous one was a part student research and requires the use of the Farthest Hall under Sovereign Temple management, in addition to Eglantine just marrying into the Royal Family and to avoid division between the Temple and Royals, Aub Klassenberg couldn't push the issue anymore.

Hannelore's Fifth Year at the Royal Academy

Once the Lanzenave invasion was defeated, ending Raublut's insurrection and the crowning of Zent Eglantine, Dunkelfelger rose to Rank 1 in recognition of their contributions. Two new duchies were founded, Blumenfeld and Korinthsdaum, ruled by former royals and assumed the temporary Ranks of 2 and 3. This led to Klassenberg to assume Rank 4, a considerable drop in a single day. Most nobles Yurgenschmidt expect the new duchies to drop in rank next year, where they will be properly evaluated by crop harvest and normal measures at the Archduke Conference. This likely allows Klassenberg to at least rise back up to Rank 2 without much difficulty.

With the country gate to Lanzenave no longer being open, and all sugar imports from there beign stopped, honey from Gilessenmeyer and Klassenberg is currently in high demand, particularly in Alexandria.

*Looking at the Japanese name クラッセンブルク, "Klassenburg" as transcription seems to resemble the Japanese more. While "-berg" stands for "Berg" which means mountain in German, "-burg" stands for "Burg" which means "castle" in German.

Trivia

• The easternmost part of Klassenberg's territory once belonged to Eisenreich, the greater duchy preceding Ehrenfest. This region known as Eisen used to see much traffic due to the abundance of mineral ores, but was mostly abandoned after the ores were depleted. It is now a region where strong feybeasts appear frequently and avoided by even traveling merchants.
