Leherl (ダプラ, dapura) is a type of employment contract utilized by commoners in the city of Ehrenfest. It is more restrictive than the lehange contract, but offers a higher status and more long-term job security at a given company or workshop.
Contract Terms
Leherls are those who are either shop or workshop managers, or children being trained to become managers.[1] A leherl contract is 8 years long and is usually signed at ten years of age for children who are to begin their training. Leherls are a step above lehanges in the shop or workshop hierarchy.
It is very common for merchant leherls to start living in a room above their workplace at the age of ten. Unlike live-in apprentices who have to live in the worst rooms at the top of the buildings, leherls are usually give good rooms further down at a discount.
A leherl contract binds the signer very tightly to the store and only exceptional circumstances allow one to quit such a position without significantly negative effects on their career and reputation. Thus those who plan to open a store or workshop of their own in the future are generally better advised to only form lehange contracts until they can get their Beruf Certification.[2]
Final Test
At around the time an apprentice leherl in a workshop comes of age, they have to finish a test. This details of these tests varies from guild to guild, but always involves finding at least one patron and finishing one or more tasks to their satisfaction. Should the apprentice fail to secure a patron in time or fail at the given task, their leherl contract is rendered null and void, and they are demoted to a lehange.[3]
Smithing Guild Test
In smithing workshops, a leherl needs to find a single patron for whom they need to finish just one task.[3] Each year all the tests are evaluated in the smithing guild, and the person judged to have done the best job is commended.
