— Angelica describing Lieseleta to Rozemyne in Part 4 Volume 1, Chapter 7: My Retainers and Entering the Dormitory
|
Lieseleta (リーゼレータ, Riizereeta) is a mednoble apprentice attendant who serves as one of Rozemyne’s retainers. She is the younger sister of Angelica.[4]
Appearance
Lieseleta has dark green eyes and emerald green hair, which she wears tied back in a long braid. She closely resembles Angelica, her older sister. She has a quiet, observant atmosphere and always smiles. In Part 4 Volume 1, she is about 155 cm (5’1”) tall.[5]
Personality
Lieseleta is exceptionally skilled in masking her true emotions. While working and in the presence of her mistress, Lieseleta always appears prim, proper and utterly calm. In private however she is quite bright, cheerful and talkative.
She even shows a playful side by lightly teasing Damuel on occasion.
One of her prominent trait is her love towards the rabbit-like feybeasts shumils, in which her passion rivals Angelica's passion of getting stronger. Whenever topics about shumils are brought up, she gets very excited.
Shumils are so far the only thing that ever managed to make Lieseleta's work façade slip and openly show her true emotions to Rozemyne, albeit briefly.[6]
History
Due to Lady Rozemyne managing to get Angelica to successfully graduate from the Royal Academy, Lieseleta is very thankful and loyal to Rozemyne. A noble failing to graduate the Royal Academy would be a great mark of shame upon the entire family that Angelica's master spared them from. It is also this act that made Lieseleta utterly convinced of Rozemyne's abilities. She once mused "you guided my sister to graduation, so nothing is beyond your abilities."[7]
At some point before or in the early days of Lieseleta's service to Rozemyne, she gets engaged with Ulbrick, a member of her house. However, after learning Rozemyne's mana compression method, their respective mana capacities diverge so much, they can not realistically expect to ever have children together. With Ferdinand departing from Ehrenfest to marry, any chance of Ulbrick learning the mana compression himself disappears, and their families have no choice, but to cancel their engagement.[3]
Story
Upon witnessing how poor of health her lady truly is, she takes up the study of medicine at the Royal Academy. While she isn't able to finish enough of the courses to be officially recognized as a doctor, that was never her goal to begin with, since she only wishes to be better able to help her lady in any way she can, so the knowledge itself is the goal for her, not any title that comes with it.[3]
Part 4 Volume 2
Lieseleta is very fond of Schwartz and Weiss and eagerly throws herself into her studies to make sure she finishes her courses for the year early so that nothing can get in the way of her participating in Lady Rozemyne measuring the two shumils for their new clothing. Rozemyne suspects that this is at least partially due to her missing the pet shumils she has back home.[8]

Thanks to the Rozemyne Mana Compression, Lieseleta's mana has grown to a capacity of an archnoble, which also opened the gap between her and her fiancé - a fellow mednoble - beyond the point, where the two are able to sense each other's mana, forcing the families to cancel it. With her barely in range to still feel her father's mana, it becomes clear that she will only be able to marry an archnoble, but as the successor of her house, it is necessary her future husband marry into her family, and thus be reduced in status to a mednoble, which makes it quite difficult to find a suidatable husband for her. Ideally both the family and Lieseleta herself wish for a future husband who is an attendant, serves a member of the archducal family, or at least works in the castle and is willing to marry into their family, but her father is unable to find any such mednoble, with high enough mana capacity to be compatible with his daughter, or archnoble who both fits all the preferances and is willing to marry down. However he is able to find Lord Thorsten, an archscholar serving Lord Wilfried. Due to being only the third son of his father, Thorsten has little in inheritence to expect and wasn't able to bring up the enormous sums necessary to create a new house of his own. Furthermore, Thorsten's family wishes to form connections with Lady Rozemyne, but as former members of the Veronica faction, they find it difficult to approach most of Rozemyne's retainers, due to the generation-lasting feud between the Leisegang, who most of them belong to, and the former Veronica factions. Lieseleta's family being faction neutral, despite the budding connections they have with both Rozemyne and Bonifatius, and her having archnoble levels of mana, makes her attractive enough of a match for Thorsten, the family is willing to marry their son down into the mednoble family, while such a match would grant Lieseleta's family a future husband who fulfills all their wishes, except being an attendant. Despite Lady Rozemyne's involvment in Veronica's fall, Thorsten and his family are not resentful of her, but on the contrary are thankful to her, due to Rozemyne's intervention preventing Wilfried from being disinherited, which would have brought their house down with him. The first mixing of colours between the parents, didn't look too promising, but the result was apparently close enough, that they were willing to take it to the second mixing, in no small part due to both Lieseleta and Thorsten having unusually large differences between their own and their parents' mana. At the second mixing of colours, the prospective pair finds that their mana is mixing well, despite them appearing to share none of their elements with each other, and between each other the pair learns that their goals for this marriage are very compatible, so it's decided to make the engagement official. They also decide to exchange their Engagement Feystones earlier than usual, due to Lieseleta entering her final year at the Royal Academy. Wearing such a feystone would make their engagement clear to everyone, which means Lieseleta wouldn't have to bother with turning down all the proposals that would otherwise come her way, while Thorsten won't have to worry about another man trying to steal away his future wife. The stone Lieseleta makes for her future husband contains the words "Let us serve the next generation together," while the one she receives reads "To my Darkness-dispersing Goddess of Light."[1] |
Part 5 Volume 3
With her being without a partner, the archscholar Thorsten, one of Lord Wilfried's retainers, proposes to Lieseleta and agrees to marry down into her mednoble family, just a short time before her coming-of-age. With their respective statuses, Lieseleta's family finds it impossible to refuse[3] and thus he escorts Lieseleta at her graduation.[9]
His reason for marrying down into her family is motivated by the purge. During that, members of his family were sentences to severe punishments, due to having carried out criminal acts under direct orders of Lady Veronica. He hopes that through the close connections Lieseleta's family, and her sister Angelica in particular, have with Lord Bonifatius, he will be able to lower the sentence of his family. To this end, he and his family often make unreasonable demands of Lieseleta's family, who have a hard time refusing them, on account of their lower status.
After Rozemyne discovered how genuine prayer increases the chances of gaining divine protections Lieseleta took inspiration from her lady and started to heal the minor injuries their apprentice knights suffered during their training with the goal to qualify for the protection of Heilschmerz the Goddess of Healing in the future. This also had the added benefit in improving her already rather existing popularity among the knights even more.
When the royal family granted the graduating students permission to re-do the ceremony to acquire divine protections at the end of their final year if they wishes, Lieseleta participates and manages to gain Heilschmerz's protection, just like she had been hoping.[2]
Part 5 Volume 6
Upon learning that Rozemyne will most likely be adopted by the king and move to the Sovereignty, Lieseleta initially believes she will not be able to follow her lady, since she is the successor of her house and already engaged.[10] However when Lady Elvira offers to put her considerable influence to make it possible for Lieseleta to stay with Rozemyne, she is only too happy to agree.[11]
In her place, her ex-fiancé Uderick will be made the successor of the house and Elvira will convince Thorsten's family to break off the engagement from their side, so as to not have any negative impact on Lieseleta's family over the impression of mednobles defying the will of archnobles.
At Elvira's suggestion, Lieseleta strives to become Rozemyne's head-attendant. To achieve this, she tries to soak up as much information from Ottilie as she can, while she's still in Ehrenfest and will try to find a sovereign archnoble to marry, upon their move to the Sovereignty, so she too can become an archscholar, since a mere mednoble would never able able to become a princesses head-attendant.[3]
Part 5 Volume 7
For Lady Rozemyne's fourth' year at the Royal Academy, Lieseleta is chosen to accompany her as her adult retainer, with Ottilie staying behind to help contain Clarissa and prepare for her lady's move to the Sovereignty come spring. This arrangement also gives Lieseleta some extra time to get used to interacting with greater duchies and royalty.[12]
