Ascendance of a Bookworm Wiki

Ascendance of a Bookworm ~I'll do anything to become a librarian!~ (本好きの下剋上 ~司書になるためには手段を選んでいられません~ Honzuki no Gekokujou ~Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen~) is a Japanese fantasy light novel series written by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by You Shiina.

The story was originally serialized online from September 2013 to March 2017 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shousetsuka ni Narou. The Japanese light novels were later licensed and published by TO Books, and the official English translation is licensed and published by J-Novel Club. The series received an anime adaptation in 2019 and 2020, with a third season airing in 2022.

The story centers around Urano Motosu, a college student who loves books. Just after landing her dream job as a librarian, she dies after being crushed by her book collection earthquake. The next thing she knows, Urano wakes up in the body of Myne, a sickly commoner girl living in the fantasy city of Ehrenfest. Her first mission is to find a book — but to her dismay, her family doesn't even know what a book is.

Stuck in a world where ink and paper are worth their weight in gold, and where most commoners don't even know how to read, Myne resolves that "if there are no books, I'll just have to make them myself!"
