Lily (リリー, Ririi) is a grey shrine maiden and was Egmont's attendant.[1]
Appearance
Personality
History
She was chosen by Brother Egmont as an attendant, most likely based solely on her good looks. Her duties included, but were not limited to, offering flowers.
Story
Part 4 Volume 4
While High Bishop Rozemyne was in her two year coma, Lily becomes pregnant, leading to morning sickness and a generally reduced ability to fulfill her assigned duties. Disgusted by her regular throwing up and offended by her inability to do her work, her master Brother Egmont dismisses her from his service and quickly has her replaced, leading to Lily going back to the orphanage.
Like all grey priests and shrine maidens at the temple at the time, she has no knowledge about pregnancy and thus is very scared about the changes her body is going through. This, as well as her former master's harsh treatment, has her inconsolable for some time, but the warm care by the other people in the orphanage, and Wilma in particular, helps her to cope.
Due to the bad reputation that the temple has in the City of Ehrenfest it is unlikely that any midwife in the city would be willing to assist the temple, even for payment. People in farming villages have a much better opinion of priests, so the expectant mother is moved to Hasse's Monastery, since farming villages generally tend to hold the temple in higher regard than city-folk, thanks to the Harvest Festival and Spring Prayer very directly impacting their lives.
Several shrine maidens, including Wilma, are sent to accompany Lily to learn what to do at a birth, so they can assist should another shrine maiden get pregnant in the future. Under the guidance of Nora and with the help of more women from Hasse, Lily gives birth to a healthy baby in late spring.
In the summer, the mother and child are moved back to the Ehrenfest orphanage via carriage, where Wilma helps Lily to take care of the baby like she did with Dirk.
Her son is growing up well, and now that he's started to crawl, is keeping his caretakers in the orphanage on their toes. He once tried to crawl up to Lady Rozemyne, sending the grey priests into a near-panic.[2]
Part 4 Volume 9
When Hartmut becomes Rozemyne's retainer, he starts to visit the orphanage. When there he regularly starts extolling on Rozemyne's greatness, something that at times Delia gets caught up and ends up joining in. When later called out on that, Delia gets very defensive and embarrassed. Lily seems to like teasing Delia about this a little too much, earning the occasional light scolding from Wilma.
Following a purge of the former Veronica faction in the winter of Rozemyne's third term, the children of executed nobles are taken in by the temple. Due to being one of the very few shrine maidens with any experience dealing with little children on account of being part of raising her own child and Dirk respectively, Lily and Delia play a big part in caring for the new arrivals.[3]
