Magdalena (マグダレーナ Magudarēna) was a Sovereign royal, Trauerqual's third wife and the mother of Hildebrand.[4] Her brother is Werdekraf, the current Aub Dunkelfelger.
Upon Trauerqual abdicating the throne and Ralfrieda's demotion to third wife, Magdalena becomes his first wife in their new founded duchy of Blumenfeld.
Appearance
Magdalena has the same bluish-silver hair colour as her son. Her eyes a distinct tone of deep red and have a shape that makes her appear like she has a strong, cutthroat personality in Rozemyne's opinion. She looks to be in her mid-twenties.[1]
Personality
Like most women of Dunkelfelger, Magdalena is far more assertive and showing more of her emotions than the average archduke candidate from other duchies. Also unlike most other noble born into the same position as her, she married the then-Prince Trauerqual, out of genuine love, rather than political motives.
Since Trauerqual's first wife is from a Gilessenmeyer, currently ranked Fourth, while Magdalena is from the greater duchy Dunkelfelger, Magdalena tries to keep out of the public eye as much as possible, to show her support for the first wife and counteract calls for her to be made the first wife instead.[1]
History
As a member of the Dunkelfelger archducal family, Magdalena received far more extensive combat training than most nobles of her position of other duchies. She also often trained with her brother Werdekraf before she moved to live at the Royal Palace, following her marriage.[5]
During her time at the Royal Academy, a large group of Dunkelfelger knights made it their goal to rescue Ferdinand from the deprivations he had to suffer at the hands of Lady Veronica and her faction by marrying him into their own duchy. Toward this purpose, they pressured their Aub to arrange an engagement between Ferdinand and Magdalena. This infuriated Magdalena, who had no intention of marrying the boy from a middle duchy, when she was already in love with the at-the-time fifth prince Trauerqual. Before any official arrangements could be made between Dunkelfelger and Ehrenfest, Magdalena managed to secure engagement of herself and the prince, even though it would only be as his third wife.
Not too long after the civil war happened, she ultimately saw her husband rise to the position of Zent and the two had a child. The boy is Hildebrand and was raised to become a vassal to whichever of his two older brothers would win the position of successor.[4]
Story
Part 5 Volume 1
Since her son Hildebrand moved to his own royal villa following his baptism, the two only rarely see each other anymore. Upon his moving out, she told him she would no longer be so soft on him, albeit that does apparently not stop her from comforting him when she sees him upset.[6]
Part 5 Volume 3
Rozemyne first lays eyes upon Magdalena, at the reward ceremony of her third year at the Royal Academy, albeit only from a distance.[7]
Part 5 Volume 10
When the Royal Palace is breached by intruders, Zent Trauerqual entrusts Magdalena with leading of the troops and liaising with her brother Werdekraf, the current Aub Dunkelfelger. After the first seeming intruder is captured and identified as a member of the Sovereign Knight's Order and news about fight all over the palace come in, it is Magdalena who deduces that the only person who had the means for such an extensive infiltration is Raublut. Upon the arrival of Aub Dunkelfelger at the Royal Academy, Trauerqual appoints Magdalena as the leader of their forces and liaison with her brother.
Shortly after an ordonnanz from Ferdinand of Ehrenfest informs them of the situations at the Royal Academy and requests the Zent to personally lead his troops against the traitors and foreign invaders. In response to this however, the Trauerqual only replies that the country needs a true Zent, implying without saying it, that he won't act. Confused and alarmed Magdalena questions her husband and pleads for him to send another message, that won't make it sound like he is refusing to participate in the defense of his country, but only receives the very same line, word for word from him, as if he was in a trance. It is at this moment she notices a sweet aroma hanging around Trauerqual, which is in stark contrast to his usual dislike of sweet smells and his never having used any kind of perfume. When she asks him if he took to putting on perfume, he replies that he recently started to burn a calming incense to help him sleep. One of guard knights realizes how similar the Zent's behavior is to the Sovereign Knights who attacked a ditter match between Ehrenfest and Dunkelfelger the year before, while under the effects of a drug called Trug.
With even more rage against the traitor, she sets off alongside the Dunkelfelger knights and makes for the auditorium, where the last remains of the enemy troops still at large in the Royal Academy are concentrated and locked in a battle with Ahrensbach and Ehrenfest forces led by Rozemyne and Ferdinand, as well as Anastasius and his personal guards. On the way, Werdekraf gives her a silver dagger, he took from a defeated opponent and explains the peculiarities of the Lanzenave silver weapons and clothes. Werdekraf himself, wields a silver sword also taken from defeated Lanzenavians.
In the confrontation with their enemy, Magdalena and Werdekraf attack Raublut together. Magdalena fights exclusively with her schtappe formed into a spear, despite the disadvantages this gives her against the silver cloak Raublut is wearing. This makes Raublut consider her the lesser threat, and concentrate primarily on Aub Dunkelfelger and his silver sword, and using his cloak to defend against Magdalena's attacks. But this is exactly what she was hoping for. At a moment Raublut is letting his guard against her down, while locked with Werdekraf, Magdalena quickly draws her silver dagger and stabs the traitor in the flank, right through his feystone armor. Stunned by the sudden pain and surprise, Raublut freezes for a moment, which is enough for Aub Dunkelfelger to stab him deep into a shoulder, which makes Raublut collapse. With the commander of the traitors and foreign invaders, and their leader, Gervasio having disappeared in a flash of light, together with Rozemyne and Ferdinand, the fighting in the auditorium comes to an end, with the loyalists quickly subduing what remains of the opposing forces.[5]
Part 5 Volume 12
In part to reward her for the crucial role she played in bringing down the traitor Raublut, Trauerqual now as Aub Blumenfeld, promotes Magdalena to his first wife. Ralfrieda, the former first wife is demoted to third wife.[2]
