— Shikikoza to Ferdinand in Part 2 Volume 2, Chapter 23: Rescue and Reprimand
|
Shikikoza (シキコーザ, Shikikooza) is a medknight and former blue priest who was assigned to protect Myne with Damuel during the trombe extermination.
Personality
Due to his mana capacity being far lower than that of even weak mednobles, he has an inferiority complex and likes to take his frustration out on those of lower rank than himself. Furthermore, his mother Gloria also greatly disrespects commoners, making his abuse of them even worse.
When Myne, one of the hated commoners, has a much bigger mana capacity and is granted blue robes thus in his mind lowering his former position as a blue priest even more, it plays directly into his complexes, instilling a deep hatred for her in him.
History
Shikikoza was born to Gloria when she was the second wife of Viscount Dahldolf. Due to having a far too low mana capacity to be accepted into a regular mednoble family, his father gave his mother three choices, have him adopted into a laynoble family, make him a family servant, or send him to the temple. She chose to send him to the temple. With Gloria being a member of the faction of Lady Veronica, who was also the High Bishop's sister, she hoped that she would be able to improve both her son's life at the temple and the standing of her province this way, and her plans worked out.
Thanks to his mother's influence, Shikikoza was able to become part of Bezewanst's inner circle, garnering many privileges over his fellow blue priests who remained neutral or in opposition to the High Bishop.
During his time in the temple, his father's first wife died, and Gloria was promoted to be the new first wife. At around the same time, the civil war raged in the Sovereignty. When the purge led to a severe mana shortage, Gloria was able to leverage her new position to convince her husband to allow Shikikoza to return to the family, and subsequently, he was sent to the Royal Academy, where he became a knight and eventually joined the Ehrenfest Knight's Order.[1]

Trivia
- The Japanese version of his name is "Shikikōza", which spelled backwards means "Small-Fry Knight" (雑魚騎士, zako kishi). The English translator was going to change to a different name in English with a similar meaning for localization, but the author requested a name that sounds similar to the original because of the anime.
- The official English light novel translation by J-Novel Club chose to shorten his name to "Shikza", but due to this losing the above-mentioned pun, the admins of this site decided to go with the original Japanese on the wiki.
