— Solange in Part 4 Volume 1, Chapter 15: Registering at the Library
|
Solange (ソランジュ Soranju) is a mednoble employed at the Royal Academy as a professor and librarian.
Appearance
She looks like a slightly chubby elderly lady with blue eyes and light-purple hair and wears a peaceful smile.
Personality
She is very protective of the library and very friendly with students who share her passion of books. She is having trouble powering all the protective tools in the library and is very happy when Rozemyne reactives Schwartz and Weiss.
History
During Solange’s earlier years in the library, she had fond memories with Schwartz and Weiss. The two shumils were beloved by many of the female students[1].
After the Civil War, all of Solange’s fellow librarians were either called back to the Sovereignty or executed as part of the purges. Despite her relatively low status, Solange became the Head Librarian of the Royal Academy Library, responsible for running the entire library on her own.
In the times before the civil war, the duties of archnoble and mednoble librarians differed considerably. When the archnoble librarians learned of their imminent execution, there was not enough time to teach Solange all the knowledge previously only given to archnobles, which resulted in most of this to be lost.
Solange acknowledges that there might be many things about the royal academy library she knows only partially or not at all and can't even rule out the possibility of being mistaken about things she thinks she knows[2].
As a mednoble, Solange didn’t have enough mana to keep all the magic tools in the library running, nor the authority to compel archnoble or archduke candidate students to return borrowed books. As a result, her job was often very difficult.
Solange diligently kept pouring mana into the dormant Schwartz and Weiss. Because she did not have both the attributes of Darkness and Light, she was not able to activate them. However, her mana sustained the wards on the the two magic tools that prevented theft and meddling.
Story
Part 4 Volume 1
Recently her situation improved thanks to the Ehrenfest student Rozemyne ending up reactivating the shumil-shaped magic tools Schwartz and Weiss with an accidentally slipped out blessing upon registering for the library[3]. The two priceless artifacts have since taken over quite a bit of the routine work like lending out and retrieving carrel keys and documents, enabling Solange to dedicate more of her time to other tasks that she was previously forced to neglect due to a lack of time.
After Rozemyne reactivated them, Solange kept contributing mana to them to lessen the potential burden on Rozemyne[4].
When Rozemyne invites Solange to a tea party and shows her Ehrenfest products, she seems more interested in the plant paper sample than the hair ornaments or the sweets.
Part 4 Volume 2
Recently she has been often accosted by archnobles and archduke candidates of higher ranking duchies who tried to order her to give them Schwartz and Weiss[5]. A "Lady from Ahrensbach", most likely Detlinde, has been particularly insistent in making Solange tell her how to become the master of Schwartz and Weiss[6].
Trivia
- Solange prays to the statue of Mestionora on the library's second floor at the end of each work day[4].
- Her favorite pound cake topping is honey and jam[1].
