— Stenluke in Part 4 Volume 1, Chapter 8: The Better Grades Committee
| ||
Stenluke (シュティンルーク, shutinruuku) is Angelica’s sentient manablade. It speaks in a voice identical to Ferdinand’s.
Appearance
Stenluke outwardly looks like a regular sword with a large feystone embedded into its pommel. It is the size of a dagger when sheathed, and grows to its full size when drawn.
Prior to Rozemyne pouring mana into it, the blade had a maximum length of 50 cm.[1] It is likely that the length of the blade has continued to increase, but no exact measure has been given since.
Personality
Stenluke has a personality and voice similar to Ferdinand’s. It is formal, intelligent, and disciplined. While it is strict with Angelica, it is very respectful to Rozemyne, calling her “master of my master.” Generally, it does not talk to anyone other than Angelica or Rozemyne.
History
Stenluke was initially a regular manablade. To compensate for the elemental affinities she lacked, Angelica fed it feystones and materials of different attributes. She also gave it mana whenever she could to grow the blade.
Story
As a reward for studying hard and successfully passing her courses at the Royal Academy, Rozemyne promises to donate mana to Angelica's manablade. Her mana is only expected to grow the blade and potentially instill it with some of her elemental affinities.
While pouring mana into the blade, Rozemyne reflects that what Angelica really needs is more brainpower and more motivation to study, and she remembers her own experience with Ferdinand’s strict teaching style. While Rozemyne is pouring mana into the blade, she is interrupted by Eckhart who promptly calls Ferdinand. Worrying that Rozemyne's lack of education on mana might have caused issues to the blade, he pours a small amount of mana into it to check it, but can't initially find anything wrong with it, much to Angelica and Rozemyne's relief. Following this Ferdinand goes to lecture the gathered people at length.
When he inquires whether they all now understood the dangers, Angelica's reply is less than convincing, causing Ferdinand to shout at her. To everyone surprise though, the manablade itself also shouts. It is then the blade that explains that Lady Rozemyne's - whom it called "master of my master" - wish has caused it to become sentient and because she was thinking of Ferdinand at the time, combined with Ferdinand pouring some of his mana into the blade influenced its voice and attitude. This resulted in the blade being nearly identical to Ferdinand in both voice and mannerism.[1]
Instead of being weirded out by this, Angelica is very happy about his happenstance and later christens the blade Stenluke.
Stenluke becomes a useful tool for Angelica, since it can remember important information for her, scold her when she slacks off on her studying, and caution her when she acts recklessly. However, it can only listen and talk while Angelica's mana is coursing through it, meaning that she can’t entrust the blade to someone else so they can teach it in her place. As Stenluke points out, her mana inside of it just isn't enough to last through the necessary lessons.[2]
When Angelica begins to rely too heavily on Stenluke to remember information for her, Rozemyne forbids her from using it in classes at the Royal Academy. Stenluke agrees with the decision and abstains from providing help.[3] However, thanks to Cornelius’s dedicated tutoring, Angelica just barely manages to graduate on her own.[4]
