Thorsten is one of Wilfried's adult retainers and a scholar.[3]
Story
Thorsten escorts Lieseleta at her graduation ceremony.[3]
Despite being an archnoble, Thorsten is willing to marry down in Lieseleta's family, as a result of the purge. In it, his parents were sentences for a crime they committed under Veronica's direct orders and he hopes that through Lieseleta, he can get closer to her sister Angelica, which in turn would allow him access to Lord Bonifatius, since Angelica is very close to him, which in turn might enable him to reduce the sentence of his family. In the typical fashion of those raised within the Veronica faction, he and his family often make unreasonable demands of Lieseleta and her family, which they can't easily refuse, due to being only mednobles.
Despite how an engagement like Thorsten and Lieseleta's would be ideal for bringing the retainers of Wilfried and Rozemyne closer together and facilitate the exchange of intelligence between the entourages of the two engaged archduke candidates, Thorsten is one of the people who believes that this channel can only ever go one way, from the adopted daughter to the true born son, and refuses to give Lieseleta any information in return.[2]

Due to being only the third son of his father, Thorsten is unlikely to receive much of an inheritence and wasn't able to amass the enormous sums necessary to form his own noble house, making his marriage prospects somewhat bleak, which is further worsened by his family's connection to the now deposed Lady Veronica. Following their former patron's fall and Lady Rozemyne's rise, Thorsten's parents wish to form connections to the latter, but find it very difficult to approch most of the Leisegang dominated associates of Rozemyne. Howver after the cancellation of his daughters previous engagement, Lieseleta's father approaches Thorsten's family and the two houses find that their children would make a good political match. Lieseleta's family wishes to find a future husband for their family, who serves a member of the archducal family, who has archnoble levels of mana and who's willing to marry down into their mednoble family, and Thorsten's family, would get the connection to Rozemyne they hope for. While the engagement isn't perfect for either family, with Lieseleta getting a scholar husband, where she and her family would have prefered an attendant, and Thorsten's family having to marry their son down in status, these are sacrifices both families deem acceptible. The first mixing of colours between the parents, doesn't look too promising, but the result is apparently close enough, that they were willing to take it to the second mixing, in no small part due to both Lieseleta and Thorsten having unusually large differences between their own and their parents' mana. At the second mixing of colours, the prospective pair finds that their mana is mixing well, despite them appearing to share none of their elements with each other, and between each other the pair learns that their goals for this marriage are very compatible, so it's decided to make the engagement official. They also decide to exchange their Engagement Feystones earlier than usual, due to Lieseleta entering her final year at the Royal Academy. Wearing such a feystone would make their engagement clear to everyone, which means Lieseleta wouldn't have to bother with turning down all the proposals that would otherwise come her way, while Thorsten won't have to worry about another man trying to steal away his future wife. The stone Lieseleta makes for her future husband contains the words "Let us serve the next generation together," while the one she receives reads "To my Darkness-dispersing Goddess of Light."[1] |
