— Traugott to Rozemyne in Part 4 Volume 2 Chapter 12: Traugott’s Thoughts
|
Traugott (トラウゴット, Toraugotto) is an archnoble apprentice knight. He previously served as one of Rozemyne’s retainers, but later resigned[2].
He is the grandson of Bonifatius on his father’s side and the grandson of Rihyarda on his mother’s side[3].
Appearance
Traugott has exceptionally blond hair and deep blue eyes[4].
Personality
Traugott is a hothead, who tends to lose sight of the big picture in the heat. This can even lead to him disregarding orders from his superiors and he's particularly reluctant to retreat. He's also a glory-seeker, apparently putting showing off his personal strength over victory for his duchy[5].
History
Traugott is the son of Karstedt's younger brother and Gudrun, Rihyarda's daughter. He was raised as an archnoble in Ehrenfest and trained to be a knight. From an early age, he saw his cousin Cornelius as his rival and antagonized him[6].
Story
As is revealed shortly after the ditter match against Dunkelfelger, Traugott has great disdain for Rozemyne stemming partially from her weak constitution, partly from seeing her as selfish for forcing others to study like crazy so she could enter the library sooner and partly from a complex of father and grandfather issues and his unobtainable dream of becoming the Commander of the Knight's Order without serving anyone.
He planned to only serve Rozemyne until she taught him her mana compression and intended to quit her service as soon as he got what he wanted from her, leading even his own grandmother Rihyarda to state that he was not just unsuited to be a guard knight, but rotten to the very core.
Rozemyne initially tries to understand his motives, but when he ignores Damuel's hard work and claims that his improvement was solely due to Rozemyne's mana compression technique and insults him, Rozemyne loses any interest in his reasons and just wants to get rid of him. Since he wants her mana compression so much, she promises him to teach him, if he resigns of his own accord, rather than forcing her to dismiss him.
Traugott neither knows nor cares why Rozemyne decided to seemingly show such great mercy to him over the protestations of Rihyarda and the visible displeasure of all her other retainers[2].
