Volk (フォルク, Foruku) is a former gray priest who now resides in Illgner as a commoner.
Story
Part 3 Volume 4
Volk is one of the grey priests chosen to go to Illgner to build a workshop and research the local fauna for suitable materials for paper-making[1].
Part 3 Volume 5
During his stay there Volk falls in love with Carya, one of the local women and she reciprocates. They desire to marry each other. Through her guard knight Brigitte Rozemyne learns of this and after a talk with Volk to make sure that it is truly his own will rather than him being manipulated Rozemyne inquires with the High Priest on possible courses of actions. Grey priests are not allowed to marry, but they can be sold to nobles.
Due to his love for his people, Giebe Illgner prepares to buy Volk so he can marry his love, but due to his extensive skillset his price is far in excess of what the local lord can afford. Rozemyne would have liked to enable Volk to marry right away, but because of how selling him below his price could effect all other grey priests and shrine maidens under her care, she reluctantly has to insist on the full price. Rozemyne indirectly encourages Volk and Carya to work hard through the winter to make paper to earn the necessary money, though neither the pair nor Giebe Illgner believe it possible to earn so much money in such a short time[2].
Part 4 Volume 1
Despite not expecting to meet their goal in just a single year, Volk and Carya work hard throughout the winter and following spring and against their expectations manage to earn the sum just like Rozemyne said they could in even less than an entire year. The following summer Giebe Illgner is able to buy Volk when he visits the capital for the Starbind Ceremony.
Two years later the happily married couple is expecting their first child[3]
Part 4 Volume 3
Volk accompanies Giebe Illgner to a meeting with Rozemyne regarding the new types of paper they made during her sleep and the lending of some craftsmen to educate other provinces in paper-making. When Rozemyne inquires how he's doing, he is glad to have the opportunity to tell her of becoming a father and how fulfilled his life is. He expresses this deepest thanks for Rozemyne leading him on the path of happiness[4].
