Map of Yurgenschmidt
Yurgenschmidt (ユルゲンシュミット, Yurugenshumitto) is the country in which the story of Ascendance of a Bookworm takes place, where Rozemyne lives in.
Overview
Located at the center of Yurgenschmidt is the Sovereignty, the seat of royal power and the home of the Zent, or ruler. The rest of the land is divided into duchies, each governed by a ruling Aub, or archduke.
The country was originally made up of 25 duchies, but due to a recent civil war that has taken place in the Sovereignty, it was reformed into 21 duchies.[1] The duchies are divided into four greater duchies (大領地), nine middle duchies (中領地), and seven lesser duchies (小領地), with the Sovereignty in the center of the country where the royal family rules.[2] The country is shaped like a circle, with each of the duchies having a magical wall around their territory showing the borders. Gates are the only way to pass through them. The duchies are ranked and the higher the rank is a duchy holds, the more influential a duchy becomes, with the lower ranked duchies having to show respect to them.
After the Battle of the Royal Academy, the duchy borders are redrawn. Territories of all defunct duchies from the previous Civil War and most of the Sovereignty are incorporated into either newly formed or existing duchies. Ahrensbach is replaced by Alexandria, whereas two new duchies, Blumfield and Colinzdaum, are formed. The total number of duchies increases to 23.
Six of the duchies have country gates as does the sovereignty. The Sovereignty has the Life gate in the center, Earth gate is north (Klassenberg), Wind gate is northeast (Ehrenfest), Dark gate is southeast (Alexandria), Fire gate is south (Dunkelfelger), Water gate is southwest (Hauchletzte), Light gate is northwest (Gilessenmeyer).
